Our House in Shkoder

I hope that that you will be able to come here someday, but if not, here's a tour.

This is a view of the house from the gate.

The door on the left is the main door. The door on the right is for the guest room. The next two photos were taken from outside the guest room.

Below is what you see from the front door.

The doorway on the left brings you to the living/dining room.

From there, you can see into the kitchen.

Here's the kitchen. Our stove is being used on the veranda until Edward paints it white.

We have a small refrigerator, which is all that we need. We usually go out at least once a day to get food as we need it. The markets are so close, it makes it simple.

The table in the kitchen is where the kids chop up all the vegetables for dinner.

If you go back to the foyer, straight across from the living room area is the doorway leading to the guest room.

I love the view from the left side of the bed.

You can look out the front doors and see the tops of some mountains.

Here's the main bathroom, just past the guest room.

After leaving the bathroom, to go upstairs, you would head back into the foyer and up the staircase on the right.

At the top of the stairs is this open area with a bathroom straight ahead, and doorways for four bedrooms.

The first room on the left is for the oldest boys.

The next room on the left is for Edward and me.

We share it with our youngest.

Next is the bathroom.

Two older boys share this room.

Next is the "little kids'" room, with our hospitable neighbors' house visible through the window.

I have been very impressed by the way the children here know English so well. There's typically a crowd of children at our gate in the evenings, hoping that our kids can go out to play with them. They are very helpful as we are learning Albanian. Many of them have learned English from watching TV from toddlerhood, so they understand us very well.

Lastly, here are our clotheslines. They already had wires rigged across the yard behind the house. Without a dryer, this is so helpful! With the warm sunshine and breeze, it often takes less time than an electric dryer.

After selling or getting rid of most of our belongings back in the states due to the cost of transporting it, we are able to live more simply. Especially with the idea of moving from here in a year or two, we are hoping to keep our possessions to a minimum. It's so easy to accumulate things!
